Can Mostatxins 8

Those of you who prefer the intimacy of a small boutique-style hotel and still hanker for that something a little bit extra need look no further than the Can Mostatxins Hotel in Alcudia old town. Pronounced ‘Moss-ta-chins’, it takes it name from a former owner of the property, a butcher named Rafael Valls who was given the nickname Mostatxins (meaning moustache in Mallorquin) because he wore a thin moustache which curled up at its ends.

Although only opened in 2015 this hidden gem has just won first place in the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Award in the category of Small Hotels in Mallorca for the second year running. If that’s not impressive enough it also ranks as the second best small hotel in the whole of Spain under the same scheme and of the top twenty five small hotels in the whole of Europe, Can Mostatxins comes in at number eighteen.

Travellers’ Choice awards, which were established in 2002, are the highest honour TripAdvisor can bestow on an hotel and are totally dependent upon the reviews of customers and guests. Simply put, award winners can be categorised as the “best of the best”.

Last year Booking.com ranked the Hotel as number one in the Balearics and customers of Expedia and Hotels.com rated it ‘Outstanding’ with a score of five out of five.

Accolades such as these can only be achieved by attention to detail, exemplary customer service, dedicated staff and good old fashioned hard work.

The Hotel was converted from a 15th century Mallorcan manor house and boasts 19 individually designed and unique bedrooms which combine Gothic style with modern furnishings. The Hotel consists of two buildings with the main building also containing two bedrooms accessed by their own dramatic entrance to the hotel’s 15th century tower. Bedrooms within the main building have areas of exposed sandstone with light oak floors. The second building contains bedrooms designed with a Spanish modernist approach replicating the design of the original house.

The indoor spa pool is stunning and the newly opened Apolonia Restaurant serves Spanish and Mediterranean dishes, with a twist, to Fine Dining standards.

Alcudia old town is set in a region rich in history and culture and is a wonderfully diverse location ideally suited for today’s discerning tourists. Why not spoil yourself and relax and unwind in this amazing venue?
