For those visiting the north of Mallorca the resort area of Port de Pollença is an ideal base from which to tour the region. At the foot of the Serra de Tramuntana, the mountainous UNESCO World Heritage Site which stretches across the north coast of the island, Port de Pollença looks out across Pollença Bay and towards the Formentor Peninsula. Popular with walkers, birdwatchers and cyclists as well as those seeking a traditional summer holiday by the sea, the small resort town has much to offer with a plethora of restaurants, cafes and bars. A market is held in the town square every week and there are regular bus services to Pollença, Alcudia, Palma and the north coast.

1. Hotel Illa d’Or
The superior 4 star hotel, Illa d’Or, is located on the beachfront in Port de Pollença where it commands wonderful views across the Bay of Pollença.
Recently renovated, this iconic hotel has served tourists and the rich and famous since it opened its doors in 1929. Agatha Christie stayed here a number of times and in the early 1930’s during one of her visits Christie wrote the short story, “Problems at Pollensa Bay” which was later published as “Problems at Pollensa Bay and Other Short Stories”.
The hotel’s wellness and fitness spa has been totally refitted and offers massage and beauty therapy in addition to modern gymnasium equipment. The Illa d’Or is superbly located at the foot of the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range. Its single and double rooms and guest suites are wonderfully appointed in a modern yet classical style and the whole experience is one of relaxation and serenity.
Renowned for its excellent cuisine and popular new restaurant 1929, it is also famous for its Afternoon English Tea, which is highly recommended. 2. Mar Calma Hotel
With 20 comfortable, modern guest rooms, the small boutique hotel Mar Calma, centrally located in the heart of Port de Pollença close to the main square, is an ideal refuge and base to explore the restaurants, cafes and culture of this charming fishing port. The hotel is just a five minute walk from the beautiful Bóquer Valley, popular with hikers and birdwatchers.
There is a rooftop Jacuzzi and chill out area and despite its location in the centre of town the hotel is calm and quiet.
Staff are friendly and welcoming and the breakfast, which is included within the room tariff, is highly recommended by all those guests who have reviewed Mar Calma following their stay.

3. Hoposa Bahia Hotel
Completely renovated in 2013, this Mediterranean styled hotel, located in a 19th century holiday home and popular with couples and families, is set on the beachfront in Port de Pollença and features a spacious beachside terrace and restaurant with wonderful views.
The guest rooms are simple but comfortable. Guests appreciate its marvellous location which is in easy walking distance of a host of cafes and traditional restaurants around the port.
Positioned alongside the famous Pine Walk and well suited to romantic evenings dining in its excellent restaurant or simply sipping cocktails whilst being attended to by friendly and accommodating staff, this child friendly hotel ticks many boxes!

4. La Goleta Hotel
La Goleta is a small and friendly 4 star, adult only, boutique hotel on the beach front in Port de Pollença just a short walk from La Gola Nature Reserve. The simple but elegant guest rooms are sound proofed and air conditioned and the hotel is particularly popular with cyclists who use it as a base from which to tour the magnificent Serra de Tramuntana Mountain Range.
The hotel is equipped with a cycle garage and cycle workshop together with a separate DIY laundry for washing cycle kit! If you don’t bring your own bicycle, La Goleta can arrange cycle hire for you. The hotel has a roof terrace complete with swimming pool.
The ground floor of the hotel is home to Argos Restaurant which is run by acclaimed head chef, Alvaro Salazar.
Argos was awarded its first Michelin Star in November 2016 and is the only restaurant in Port de Pollença to receive such an accolade. Whilst the hotel is open year round, the restaurant will reopen after a seasonal break, in March 2017.
5. Aparthotel Flora
For those wishing to self cater as opposed to stay in an hotel, Port de Pollença has numerous options including apartments and villas.
A popular alternative to hotel accommodation is the good value, centrally located Aparthotel Flora, ideal for the beach and Pine Walk as well as easy access to restaurants and bars in this popular fishing port resort. Minutes away from local supermarkets and other amenities its central location couldn’t be bettered.
Favoured by families, this renovated modern apartment block has well maintained grounds and a large swimming pool in addition to an indoor restaurant on the ground floor adjacent to the pool.
There is a guest lounge with bar and apartments consist of a kitchenette and are all air conditioned.
6. Villa Concha Apartments
Villa Concha Apartments are part of the Hoposa Group and consist of self catering studios (sleeping 2) and one bedroomed apartments (sleeping up to 4) located close to the beach and centre of Port de Pollença.
Both room types are equipped with a fully fitted kitchen. For those preferring to dine out there is a restaurant and bar within the family friendly complex and numerous other cafes, bars and restaurants a short walk away.
The apartment complex has a large sun terrace area and three fresh water swimming pools, adult, mixed and children only.
In addition there are amenities just for children including supervised entertainment and a bouncy castle.
7. Llenaire Hotel
This small luxury hotel is set in its own private estate on a small hill overlooking the Bay of Pollença just off the road between Pollença old town and the port of the same name.
The 12 guest rooms and suites are all individually styled and the hotel grounds consist of private secluded gardens and a beautiful swimming pool.
Llenaire’s restaurant provides fine dining using produce from its own vegetable gardens and orchards ensuring only the freshest of ingredients are served to its discerning guests.
For those wanting a luxurious, tranquil and relaxing holiday away from the busier tourist areas but still close enough to venture out and enjoy the local sights and sounds, Llenaire is difficult to beat.
8. Hotel Capri
This beachfront boutique hotel located at the water’s edge on the pedestrian promenade in Port de Pollença has 30 guest rooms fashioned in a modern Mediterranean style and is ideally located for all that the port town has to offer.
Children over the age of 12 years are welcome and the hotel boasts a restaurant specialising in Italian cuisine and its own private pier on which to enjoy an al fresco breakfast or evening meal.
A modern terrace bar is a wonderful area from which to watch the setting sun over Pollença Bay.
9. Puerto Azul Suite Hotel
This comfortable, clean and friendly hotel is great for families being located less than 100 metres from a sandy beach.
The hotel was refurbished in 2014 and consists of 148 air conditioned suites over two floors in three blocks.
There is a large restaurant, bar and snack terrace and as with most hotels in Port de Pollença you are never very far from the local shops, bars, cafes and independent restaurants that are so abundant within the area.
The grounds are well laid out with a sun terrace and swimming pool.
During peak season the hotel has a children’s entertainment club and adult entertainment most evenings.
A fully equipped gym and sauna caters for the more energetic guests and the hotel is extremely popular with cyclists who are able to utilise the secure bicycle garage, the cycle maintenance bays and the riders’ DIY laundry provided on site. There are a number of great cycle routes which start nearby and of course this area is the gateway to the magnificent Serra de Tramuntana and all it has to offer.
10. Hotel Miramar
One of the oldest hotels on Mallorca, the Miramar’s sea front setting with beachfront restaurant in the heart of the resort area, is ideal for those wishing to relax and people watch.
This family run establishment has a private beach area and its own pier.
