Mediterranean gastronomy, with its much acclaimed international reputation, is the basis of Pollença’s cuisine, with superb recipes recommended by the most exacting of gourmets.
An extensive choice of cuisine is available throughout the municipality (in Pollença, Port de Pollença, Formentor and Cala Sant Vicenç) including local and international dishes.
With a gastronomic tradition that goes back centuries, many local Mallorcan recipes can be recommended, including the Island’s mouth-watering Sopes mallorquines, made with local Mallorcan bread, vegetables and meat, and the tasty Tumbet, Arros brut, Llom amb col or the popular Frit mallorqui.
The Island’s fresh fish and shellfish are also highly prized delicacies for many people. Species such as Cap-roig, Gall de Sant Pere and lobster are some of the most best loved local specialities.
Mallorcan cakes and pastries are also very popular both within and outside the Island.
Mallorca and, in particular, Pollença, has a long tradition of wine making, leading to the achievement of numerous international awards and the Mallorcan D. O. Binissalem and D. O. Pla i Llevant designations of origin. A substantial number of wineries can be visited within the Pollença area, where each year a popular Fira del Vi (Wine Fair) is held which coincides with the start of spring and offers an increasingly varied selection of wines to suit all palates.
