At over 430 metres above sea level and with a population of around 2,000, the small sleepy town of Valldemossa in the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana is the highest town on Mallorca and well worth a visit.

Originally built and occupied by the Moors between the 9th and 13th centuries the town’s name is derived from an Islamic landowner named Muza.

Surrounded by almond orchards and olive groves and with wonderful views across the Tramuntana mountains this has to be one of the prettiest and most charming towns on the whole of the Island. Located just 11 miles to the north of Palma and with a wealth of history and culture, the town is a popular attraction for day tourists from all over Mallorca.
